RAS Mission Statement
RAS aims to bring about change in policy. We aspire to ensure equity, justice and human rights for all refugees and asylum seekers, regardless of how they have entered the country, by:
Educating the wider community about the facts of refugee and asylum seeker policies and issues, with the aim of increasing community awareness and support for policy change;
Contributing research-based knowledge for lobbying the government to change harmful policies of mandatory detention, bridging visas, and restricted access to social, medical and educational services;
Establishing a dialogue with advocates, practitioners and academics to develop equitable, just and evidence-based policy initiatives, and to promote debate on asylum seeker issues;
Nurturing the development of new and established researchers on refugee issues, promoting their research, and growing research networks;
Drawing the link between issues facing asylum seekers, refugees and other displaced persons, and wider global inequality and discrimination.
